Tutoring of two optional Service-Learning courses at the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture, offering a combination of lectures, co-creation workshops, group discussions, and individual reflection assignments.
The Socio-Spatial Design Agency Foundations (semester 1) and Expansions (semester 2) Electives are two ‘linked’ courses focusing on Community-engaged Architectural Design Learning. In the framework of these courses, the students are invited to design spatial projects / installations / interventions / tools / … with and for a variety of societal actors.
The courses aim to encourage students to critically reflect on the societal role of the spatial designers and acquire knowledge on social-spatial processes, co-creation methods and tools and innovative – transdisciplinary and transitional – approaches in (interior)architecture and urbanism. As such, the participating students are stimulated to develop a ‘critical spatial practice’-attitude and become aware of their potential to act as ‘agents of change’.
The methods used in the courses include literature study, case studies, participatory fieldwork, and community-engaged research and design.
