Tutoring of a Service-Learning Design Studio at the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture exploring the topics of modular and circular architecture, temporary use of Waiting Spaces for housing, cohousing for different target groups, de-institutionalisation of the care sector, and in-/exclusion of vulnerable people in the housing system.
The studio involved close collaboration with the actors and stakeholders from three real-life projects. Guided by the tutor, the students used literature study, participatory fieldwork, and community-engaged research & design to work on co-creating a relevant output with and for the societal partners and other stakeholders involved in the following cases:
- Design research on what a Mobile Shelter for a young person in need could be in collaboration with Oranjehuis vzw.
- Designing a mixed co-housing project (for people with and without care needs) in collaboration with Carehousing vzw, and
- Design of a temporary use (affordable housing + …) for the Fobrux building in collaboration with the city of Vilvoorde and POM Vlaams-Brabant.
